A rational function is a polynomial over a polynomial. Its graph has zeros where the top is 0, vertical asymptotes where only the bottom is 0, holes where a factor cancels, and a horizontal asymptote set by comparing degrees. The crew's laps model climbs toward a wall it never reaches. New rules are built from old ones by adding, multiplying and composing.
