Thursday: Feelings that change

Chris the Coyote sits on the Story Stump. "It is story day!"

Lucy the Ladybug lands on his hat. "Can feelings change in one story?" she asks.

"They can," says Chris. "Watch how Bruce feels at each part."

"I will name each feeling out loud," says Lucy.

Learn it: feelings change

A character can feel one way at the beginning.

Something happens, and the feeling changes.

Look for clues at each part of the story.

Lucy asks: How does the character feel now? What changed it?

Bruce's First Race
Bruce the Bobcat signed up for the Fern Hollow Fun Run.
On race day, his paws shook a little.
"What if I come in last?" he worried.
The race began, and Bruce ran as fast as he could.
Halfway up the hill, he slowed down. He felt tired.
Then he heard Rosie the Rabbit cheering. "Go, Bruce, go!"
Bruce smiled and ran faster up the hill.
He crossed the finish line in fourth place.
He was not first, but he stood up tall.
"I finished my first race!" he said proudly.
Then he stayed to cheer for every runner behind him.
