Bruce sets up stepping stones along the trail.
"Each stone is ten steps," he says.
Bennie hops from stone to stone and counts out loud.
"One hundred twenty, one hundred thirty, one hundred forty!"
Bruce grins. "Now try small stones of five. Can you keep the pattern?"
When we count by tens, the tens digit grows by one.
The ones digit stays the same.
Bennie counts: 120, 130, 140, 150.
Add one rod, and 120 becomes 130.
Count by fives on the number line.
Hop over five numbers each time: 5, 10, 15, 20.
Numbers we say end in 5 or 0.
