Wednesday: Rows and columns

Lucy helps Bennie plant seeds in the garden.

"Let us plant them in neat rows," says Bennie.

They make 3 rows, with 4 seeds in each row.

"It looks like a little grid," says Lucy.

"That is called an array," says Bennie. "Now let us count."

Learn it: an array

An array has equal rows. Rows go across.

Columns go up and down.

This array has 3 rows with 4 dots in each row.

Dots in three rows of four

Add the rows: 4 + 4 + 4 = 12. There are 12 dots.
