Tuesday: Even numbers are doubles

Lucy and Bennie sit on a log with 12 acorns between them.

"Let us share them fairly," says Lucy in her soft voice.

"One for you and one for me," says Bennie, sliding acorns over.

Each friend gets 6 acorns, and none are left over.

"Sharing makes me feel happy," says Lucy.

Learn it: two equal parts

An even number splits into two equal parts.

12 is 6 + 6. It is a double, so 12 is even.
