Crew Quest: Crew Technician badge
// Pick parts for a purpose

Crew Quest: Crew Technician badge

The Fix-It Bay is decorated with paper stars. Rocket holds a small round badge. "Crew Technician," he reads. "That is you!"

Raven pins a blank badge to the bench. "What do you notice? It is empty. You get to design it, like everything else this course."

Nova sparkles every color at once. "Would you like a hint? A badge is a picture of what you can do now."

  1. A computer is a system. Seven kinds of parts work together.
  2. Software runs the hardware. The internet moves packets. Wi-Fi is radio.
  3. The method: notice, name it, test one thing, write it down, ask.
  4. Safe fixes have a checklist and a never list.
  5. Keep information safe: passwords, updates, backups, stop think tell.
  6. Design starts with the person and the purpose, then balances trade-offs.

Design your badge

Cut a circle from paper or card. Write Crew Technician around the edge.

In the middle, draw one thing you are proud of learning. A processor, a seesaw, a shield, anything from the course.

A badge is a design too. Who is it for? What must it show? Keep it simple so it reads from across a room.

Design your Crew Technician badge. Put one picture in the middle and your favorite course word on the edge.
◇ FAMILY DEMO
Gather your family in the Fix-It Bay, which is any table at home.
Pin on your badge. Show the seven parts picture from Friday and explain it.
Let a family member pick one case: frozen app, no sound, or a tricky message. Say what you would do.
Ask a family member what device they would design, and for whom. Help them write a three-line brief.
Finish with a crew cheer. Rocket, Raven and Nova are cheering too.
Safety first
Scissors for the badge are used with a grown-up nearby.
If you show a real device during the demo, nobody unplugs, opens or wipes anything.
For a grown-up
This is a celebration, not a test. Praise the explaining, not the exactness.
Ask your child which case they would most like to solve for a neighbor.
Keep the badge somewhere visible. It is a reminder that they can figure things out.
