// A, B, C before every ride
⏱ about 15 min

Friday: Check It Over

Rocket lays out five index cards: A, B, C, Quick and Check.

"That is four checks," he says. "What is the last card for?"

Raven walks slowly around the bike. "What do you notice when you look at everything?"

Nova hovers above the saddle. "Sometimes a loose part hides in plain sight," she says.

Rocket picks up the last card. "Check it over!"

The last step

The last step is to check the whole bike over.

Look for loose or broken parts.

A grown-up tightens, replaces or fixes them.

Then a grown-up may say yes to a short test ride.

The test ride checks that the brakes and gears work.

Helmet on for every ride. Ride only where and when a grown-up says.

THE WHOLE QUICK CHECK
  • ?Air: check the tires.
  • ?Check it over: loose parts?
  • ?Quick releases: closed tight.
  • ?Chain and cranks: look closely.
  • ?Brakes: test the levers.
WHY THIS EXERCISEThe ABC Quick Check goes Air, Brakes, Chain, Quick releases, Check it over.
