Rocket tosses his helmet onto the shop shelf. It bounces off and rolls under the bench.
Raven picks it up. "What do you notice? Is that how we treat safety gear?"
"Oops," says Rocket. "I will set it down gently next time."
Nova hovers over the helmet. "Make a list of what a good helmet needs," she says. "Engineers start with a list."
Take care of your helmet. Do not throw it around.
A damaged helmet will not protect you as well.
If you fall and hit your head, get a new helmet.
Tell a grown-up about any fall or crack.
Put reflective stickers on your helmet so drivers can see you better.
Remember, criteria are things a design must do to be a success.
Here are helmet criteria from this week.
| Helmet | Meets the criteria? |
|---|---|
| Snug, level, straps snug, sticker inside, no cracks. | ? |
| Rocks side to side and tips back. | ? |
| Fits well but has a big crack. | ? |
| Fits well, but the chin strap hangs loose. | ? |
Criteria champions! Tomorrow is Bike Shop Day. Your family will do a helmet fit check.
