Thursday: Seed to seedling

Rocket holds a tiny seed.

"This will be a whole plant?" he asks.

Raven points to a sprout in the dirt.

Nova says, "Every big plant started small."

Plants have young too

Many plants grow from seeds.

A seed comes from a grown-up plant.

Put a seed in soil with water.

A root grows down.

A shoot grows up.

The shoot opens tiny leaves.

Now it is a seedling.

Seedling to grown-up

A seedling is a young plant.

It is small.

It has only a few leaves.

It grows taller. More leaves grow.

One day it may make flowers and seeds.

It looks like its parent plant, but not exactly.
