// Suffixes: -er, -est, -ful, -less, -ly, -ness and -y
A suffix is a word part added to the end of a base word. It changes what the word means: help, helpful, helpless. Sometimes the base word changes first: double the last letter (big, bigger), drop the e (safe, safer) or change y to i (cry, cries).
