Tuesday: Closed part plus le

Lizzy the Lizard holds up a little candle on the ladder.

"Can, dle," she says. "The first part ends with n."

Ferris the Fox nods. "That part is closed, so its vowel is short."

"Then we add the le part. Can, dle. Candle!"

See it: closed part first

Count back three letters for the le part.

Look at the part before it.

Does it end with a consonant? Then it is closed.
