Sound Hunt

Sound Hunt: two-part words
// Closed and open syllables
⏱ about 15 min

Saturday: Sound Hunt

Samantha the Squirrel slides down the Word Tree with a big grin.

"Sound Hunt day!" she says. "Find big words at home."

"Clap each one and split it into parts."

Ferris the Fox rolls up the Sound Map. "Ready, set, go!"

  1. A syllable is a beat. Every syllable has a vowel sound.
  2. Closed parts end with a consonant: rab / bit.
  3. Open parts end with a vowel: ro / bot.
  4. One consonant in the middle? Try open first, then closed.
