The letters c and g can each make two sounds. Before e, i or y, c usually says the first sound in sun (cent, city, fancy), and g usually says the first sound in jam (gem, giant, gym). Right after a short vowel, that jam sound at the end of a word is spelled dge (badge, bridge, edge).
