Monday: Fair shares

Lucy the Ladybug waves from her big daisy.

"I picked 18 daisies for my 3 best friends," she says.

"I want everyone to feel happy, so the shares must be fair."

Bennie the Bear sets out 3 flat stones, one for each friend.

"Let us deal the daisies one at a time," he says.

"Then we can see how many each friend gets."

Learn it: share equally

Lucy has 18 daisies and 3 friends.

She gives one daisy to each friend, again and again.

When all 18 are gone, each friend has 6.

Three groups with 6 dots in each group

We write 18 ÷ 3 = 6.

We say "18 divided by 3 equals 6."

18 is the total, 3 is the number of shares.

The quotient, 6, tells how many in each share.
