Thursday: The berry picnic

Chris the Coyote sits on a log and tips his feathered hat.

"Once, the trail friends planned a berry picnic," he says.

"Bennie filled 5 baskets with 8 berries in each basket."

"Hazel set out the cups in 3 rows of 6."

"Then Rosie the Rabbit hopped up with her bandana flying."

"Is there enough for everyone?" she asked.

Story: Counting the picnic

Bennie has 5 baskets. Each basket has 8 berries.

That is 5 groups of 8, so 5 × 8 = 40 berries.

Hazel has 3 rows of 6 cups.

That is an array, so 3 × 6 = 18 cups.
