Tuesday: Round to the nearest hundred

Donnie the Deer walks softly down the trail beside Bennie.

"I counted my steps from the meadow to the pond," says Donnie.

"It was 462 steps."

Bennie nods. "That is about 460 steps, to the nearest ten."

Donnie tilts one ear. "Can we say it with hundreds?"

"Yes," says Bennie. "Let us round to the nearest hundred."

Learn it: find the two hundreds

462 sits between 400 and 500.

Now look at the tens digit. In 462, it is 6.

The middle is 450. A tens digit of 5 or more rounds up.

A number line from 400 to 500, with a dot at 462
