Number Hunt

Number Hunt: time and graphs
// Clocks to 5 minutes, a.m. and p.m., picture and bar graphs
⏱ about 15 min

Saturday: Number Hunt

At 9:00 a.m., Hazel the Hedgehog and Bennie the Bear go hunting.

"Let us find every clock we can," says Hazel.

"Then we can sort our socks and make a graph," says Bennie.

Hazel giggles. "A sock graph sounds fun!"

Hunt for clocks and groups

Clocks can be on walls, desks or phones.

Some clocks have hands. Some show only numbers.

Groups of things at home can make a graph.

Try it: Number Hunt
Find every clock in your home.
Read the time on a clock with hands.
Say if the time is a.m. or p.m.
Sort your socks by color.
Make a bar graph of your sock colors.
WHAT DID YOU LEARN?
  • Read the question.
  • Tap your answer.
Which hand shows the hour?
A clock showing 11:05What time is it?
bedYou go to sleep at 8:00. Is it a.m. or p.m.?

◇ MAKE A GRAPH WITH A GROWN-UP
Pick 3 kinds of things, like spoons, cups and bowls.
Count each kind together.
Draw a bar for each kind on paper.
Which bar is the tallest? Which is the shortest?
Draw your sock graph or a clock that shows your bedtime.
For a grown-up
This week your child told time to 5 minutes.
They used a.m. and p.m. and read picture and bar graphs.
Ask them to read a clock with hands each day.
Ask how many more are in one group than another.

Great hunting! Next week Ferris leads us through shapes.
