Rosie the Rabbit cartwheels into the den. "Bruce! Facts, helpers, scrapes, plans! You are ready for anything!"
Freddy the Frog hops onto the chart, his knee bandage still neat. "Review time. Three facts at home. Stop, stay, look, ask. Stop, wash, cover, tell. Two ways out."
Bruce stretches. "Ready is not a day. It is a habit." Freddy grins. "Then let us see the habit, Helper."
Did you notice? All three plans this week start the same way. Stop.
Stop when you are lost. Stop when you are hurt. Leave right away, then stop at the meeting spot.
Being ready means knowing the first step so well that your body just does it.
| Plan | First step | Last step |
|---|---|---|
| Lost | Stop where you are | Wait with a safe helper |
| Scrape | Stop and sit down | Tell a grown-up |
| Fire | Leave right away | A grown-up calls for help |
| Statement | True or false? |
|---|---|
| You may leave with a stranger who knows your name. | ? |
| You tell a grown-up about every scrape. | ? |
| You never go back inside once you are out. | ? |
| Being ready is something you do once and forget. | ? |
Rosie is cheering and Freddy is nodding. Tomorrow is Family Helper Day: a ready walk-through with your grown-up.
