Family Helper Day: Room reset

Hazel the Hedgehog stands in her burrow doorway with Ferris the Fox. "Today I reset the whole room. All four jobs."

Ferris nods. "Bed, drawers, closet, tidy. Which first?" Hazel thinks. "Bed. It is the biggest thing, and it is only a minute."

Ferris smiles. "Good helper thinking. Start with the quick win." Hazel pulls the sheet flat. Step one.

  1. Bed in four steps: sheet, blanket, fold, pillow.
  2. Drawers by kind. One kind, one spot.
  3. Closet: hang by kind, pair shoes, clear the floor.
  4. Ten-minute tidy: floor, surfaces, bed, trash.
  5. Say your plan out loud. Restart if you miss a day.
◇ RESET THE ROOM TOGETHER
Step 1: The child makes the bed in four steps while the grown-up watches.
Step 2: Together, pick one drawer. Empty it, sort by kind, fold, put back.
Step 3: Pair every shoe in the closet. The grown-up hangs anything high.
Step 4: The grown-up sets a ten-minute timer. The child does floor, surfaces, bed, trash.
Step 5: Walk through the room together and name what looks different.
Step 6: The child says the room plan out loud. The grown-up listens and adds one idea.
Safety first
The grown-up opens stuck drawers and reaches high shelves and rods.
No climbing on beds, chairs or shelves to reach anything.
Anything sharp or broken found on the floor goes to the grown-up, not the bin.
For a grown-up
Let the child lead each step. Offer help only when asked or when safety needs it.
Praise the order, not the perfection. A smooth bed beats a perfect one that took an hour.
Pick a daily tidy time together, like after dinner. Add it to the Helper chart.
