Tuesday: The first leaves

A bean sprout pops up in the pot!

Rocket says, "Those leaves look wrong!"

Raven asks, "What do you notice about them?"

Nova says, "Wait and watch for more leaves."

Seed leaves

A bean sprout lifts its seed leaves from the soil.

Seed leaves are part of the seed.

They hold food for the young plant.

Seed leaves are usually a different shape.

They do not look like the grown plant's leaves.

True leaves

Wait a few more days.

New leaves will grow above the seed leaves.

These are called true leaves.

True leaves look like the leaves of the grown plant.
