In this course, data are the counts, answers and measurements people collect. Information is the facts and patterns pulled from data, and data give people chances to spot trends, make connections and address problems. A variable is anything you try to measure. Direct observation is one way to collect data, and tables help share what data show. Computing can improve, harm or keep the same the ways people do things, and one effect can help some people and harm others.
