Plants and animals have features and behaviors that raise the chance of successful reproduction. Bright petals, scent and nectar attract pollinators that carry pollen from one flower to another. Fruits and seeds have shapes that travel on wind, water or animals, so seedlings start far from the parent. Animals build nests to protect young from cold, stay in groups to keep young safe, and use songs and colorful displays to attract mates. None of these guarantees success; each makes it more likely.
