Rocket holds up a sandwich made of paper. "Look, layers!" he says.
"Why build a paper sandwich?" Raven asks. "What do you notice about the layers?"
Rocket peeks inside. "Every layer is a different color."
Nova circles the model. "An organ has layers too," she says. "Each layer is a different tissue. Count them."
An organ is a body part made of different kinds of tissue.
The tissues work together so the organ can do a special job.
Your stomach is an organ. It has muscle, connective, covering and nerve tissue.
Muscle and connective tissue form its wall. Covering tissue lines the inside.
Nerve tissue runs through the whole stomach.
| Organ | One big job |
|---|---|
| heart | Pumps blood around the body |
| lungs | Bring oxygen in and send carbon dioxide out |
| brain | Acts as the boss of the body |
| stomach | Helps break up food |
You will make a layered model of a stomach wall.
