Tuesday: Long days, short days

Rocket yawns at the dinner table.

"It is dark already!" he says.

Raven asks, "Was it dark at dinner in summer?"

Nova glows. "Think about the Sun," she says.

Daylight changes

Daylight is the time when the Sun is up.

In summer, daylight lasts a long time.

The Sun comes up early.

It goes down late.

In winter, daylight is short.

The Sun comes up later and goes down sooner.

Spring and fall are in between.

Warm and cold

Long days bring more sunshine.

More sunshine helps warm the air and ground.

So summer is the warmest season.

Short days bring less sunshine.

So winter is the coldest season.
