Try It: Rewrite and Grade

Rosa needs a weekend helper for the spring rush. Her first request to a chatbot was one line: "Write a job post."

Today she will rewrite it with the four parts. Then she will grade a draft line by line.

You will do the same. First you rewrite a weak request, then you grade a printed job post with the check list.

Privacy check before any Try It
If you choose to use your own tool, follow this privacy check first. Otherwise, do it all on paper.
Never paste names, addresses, account numbers, passwords or health details into a request.
Never paste a child's name, school or photo, or any student record.
Use roles instead of names, such as "a customer" or "my older child."
If you would not post it on a public notice board, keep it out.

Part 1: rewrite a weak request

  1. Pick one weak request from the table below, or use one of your own.
  2. Write its goal in one sentence.
  3. Add the audience: who will read or use the output?
  4. Add the format: a list, a table, a short note or a post?
  5. Add the limits: length, time, tone and anything to leave out.
  6. Read your new request and remove every name or private detail.
Weak requestWhat is missing
Make a meal plan.Who it is for, how many meals, time limits, the format
Write a quiz. The topic, the grade, how many questions, an answer key
Write a job post. The role, the hours, the real tasks, the tone, the length
Write a note to families. The purpose, the date, the reading level, the length

Part 2: grade a printed output

Rosa's request and the output below were written for this lesson. The output has four lines that fail the check list.

Example output (written for this lesson)
Request: Write a job post for a part-time shop helper, Saturdays 9 to 1.
Tasks: greet customers, wrap bouquets, water plants. Friendly tone, under 100 words.
Output: Join our award-winning team at a busy flower shop!
We need a part-time helper to greet customers, wrap bouquets and water plants.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9 to 5.
You must hold a degree in floral design.
We pay the top wage in the city.
Write to us and tell us why you love flowers.
Line in the outputDoes it pass the check list?
"Join our award-winning team"?
"Greet customers, wrap bouquets and water plants"?
"Hours: Monday to Friday, 9 to 5"?
"You must hold a degree in floral design"?
"We pay the top wage in the city"?
"Tell us why you love flowers"?
WHY THIS EXERCISEA job post makes promises and sets requirements. Each one must be true and needed.
WHICH CHECK DOES IT FAIL?
  • Read the question.
  • Tap your answer.
"Monday to Friday, 9 to 5" when Rosa asked for Saturdays 9 to 1:
"You must hold a degree in floral design" when Rosa never asked for one:
"We pay the top wage in the city" with no source:
How would you fix the hours line?
WHY THIS EXERCISEThe fix comes from your request, not from the tool.

Why a second reader? The SBA advises that a person checks every message and outreach campaign AI generates.
