Algebra 1 Grades 9 to 12
Algebra 1 Grades 9 to 12 is a 12-week high-school algebra course. Students join Comet and Wren in the Loft, the crew's garage workshop, as they design a ramp course and a bottle-rocket launcher for the neighborhood Maker Fair, and every week's math makes a build work. The course covers units and quantities, interpreting expressions, linear equations and inequalities, functions and function notation, linear graphs and models, arithmetic and geometric sequences, systems of equations and inequalities, rational exponents and exponential growth and decay, polynomial arithmetic, factoring, solving quadratic equations by factoring, square roots, completing the square and the quadratic formula, quadratic graphs and transformations, and lines of best fit on two-variable data. Every week lists the Common Core high-school standards it practices. Short daily lessons with checked answers, a hands-on Loft Lab build each week and a Saturday Loft Day for the family. No accounts, apps or software needed. 100% free, start to finish.
- Use units, reasonable precision and the structure of an expression to make sense of a quantity
- Create and solve linear equations, inequalities and systems, and explain each step
- Read, write, evaluate and graph functions, including linear, exponential and quadratic models
- Work with rational exponents and tell linear growth from exponential growth
- Add, subtract, multiply and factor polynomials, and solve quadratic equations four ways
- Fit and interpret a line on two-variable data and judge how well it fits
