Explorer Quest: Family Fact Museum

On the weekend, Rocket turns the galley into a tiny museum.

He sets out three drawn "photos" with captions. Two captions are true about the crew. One is invented.

"Visitors must use the checklist," he announces. "No guessing allowed."

Raven walks through first. She asks Rocket for the source of every caption, and he has to answer.

Nova follows her, scanning each card. "The invented one has no source," she says. "That is a clue, not proof."

Rocket laughs. "Okay, maybe running a museum is harder than visiting one."

  1. Deepfakes are synthetic audio, video and photorealistic images.
  2. Misinformation is false content. Disinformation is false content made on purpose to deceive or harm.
  3. Even very small changes to text or images can mislead people.
  4. False content can make people trust real evidence less.
  5. Slow-down checklist: pause, source, second source, sort, share or not.
◇ FAMILY FACT MUSEUM
Draw three simple "photos" of things from your home or family life.
Write a caption for each. Make two captions true and one invented but harmless.
Invite family members to visit. They may ask you for the source of each caption.
Visitors use the slow-down checklist to guess which caption is invented.
Reveal the answer. Talk about which checklist step helped most.
For a grown-up
This activity uses drawings and invented captions only. No apps or real photos are needed.
Share a time you saw something surprising and checked it before believing it.
Talk about a family rule for sharing: if we are unsure, we pause and ask first.
