⏱ about 15 min

Tuesday: The Hare and the Tortoise

Bruce the Bobcat zooms past the Story Stump. "I am the fastest!" he calls.

Chris the Coyote chuckles. "Fast is fun, Bruce. But listen to this fable."

"It is about a race," says Chris.

Bruce sits right down. He loves a race.

Learn it: details prove the moral

Some fables say the moral at the very end.

Look for the word moral.

Then find the details that show it is true.

Ferris reads the moral. Then he asks: What did the tortoise do?

He looks back. She kept going and never stopped!

Read it
The Hare and the Tortoise (a fable by Aesop)
A hare laughed at a tortoise for her short, slow feet.
"I can beat you in a race," said the tortoise.
The hare thought that was silly, but he agreed.
A fox picked the path and the finish line.
The race began, and the hare dashed far ahead.
Soon he lay down by the path and fell asleep.
The tortoise did not stop, not even once.
Step by step, she kept going, slow and steady.
At last the hare woke up and ran very fast.
But the tortoise was already at the finish line, resting!
Moral: Slow but steady wins the race.
