Story Hunt

Story Hunt: find the lesson
// Fables, morals and the details that show them
⏱ about 15 min

Saturday: Story Hunt

Chris the Coyote packs his storyteller's bag.

"It is Story Hunt day," he says. "Many stories teach a lesson."

"Pick a story at home or at the library."

"Then find the lesson and the details that show it."

  1. A fable is a short story that teaches a lesson.
  2. The lesson is called the moral.
  3. Some fables say the moral. In others, you find it yourself.
  4. Details show that the moral is true.
◇ STORY HUNT
Pick a short story with your grown-up.
Read it together.
Ask: What did the main character learn?

Say the lesson in your own words.
HUNT CHECK

  • Tap your answer.
What is a moral?
How can you find a lesson the story does not say?

For a grown-up
Fables are a gentle way to talk about choices.
Ask your child what the character could do next time.
Any story with a lesson works, old or new.

Happy hunting! Next week, Freddy and friends close the Story Trail.
