Tuesday: Bold words and the glossary

Samantha the Squirrel holds up a page.

"Look! Some words are dark and thick," she chatters.

"Those are bold words. They are extra important!"

Oliver the Owl adjusts his glasses. "And where do we learn what they mean?"

"In the glossary, of course!" says Samantha.

Learn it: bold words and a glossary

Bold words are printed dark and thick.

They are important words in the text.

A glossary is a list near the end.

It tells what each bold word means.

The words go in ABC order.

Ferris asks: What is a relay? He looks in the glossary.

A relay is a race where team members take turns!

Read it
Title: The Fern Hollow Leaf Race
Every fall, Fern Hollow has a leaf race by the stream.
It is a relay, so friends race in teams.
The race starts at the starting log.
Each racer carries a big leaf to the next friend.
The last racer sets the leaf on the finish rock.
Then everyone cheers for every team.
