Saturday: Story Hunt

Hazel the Hedgehog tucks her pencil behind her ear.

"Story Hunt day!" she says. "Find a book at home or at the library."

"Hunt for new words and silly sayings."

Freddy the Frog adds, "Ribbit! Bring your best detective eyes!"

  1. Words around a new word are context clues.
  2. Look for or and which means. They can give the meaning.
  3. Literal words mean just what they say.
  4. An idiom means something different from its words.

Pick any book with your grown-up.
Read a page together.
Find one word that is new to you.
Read the words around it for clues.
Guess what it means. Does it make sense?
Look for a saying that means something else.
