Story Hunt: topic and details
// Main topic and key details
⏱ about 15 min

Saturday: Story Hunt

Lizzy the Lizard sits on a warm rock with a book.

"Story Hunt day!" she says.

"Find a nonfiction book at home or at the library."

"Then hunt for its main topic and three key details."

Ferris waves his map. "Happy hunting, friends!"

  1. Nonfiction tells true facts about real things.
  2. The main topic is what a text is mostly about.
  3. The title often gives a clue.
  4. Key details tell more about the main topic.
  5. Details hold up the topic, like legs hold up a table.
