Donnie walks slowly on the trail.

"Let us hunt for take away," he says.

"Find groups and take some away!"

Look around your home or yard.

Find a group of things.

Take some away. Count what is left.

Find 5 spoons. Take away 1.
Find 4 socks. Take away 2.
Find 3 books. Take away 3.
Find 5 leaves. Take away 0.
Count what is left each time.

Your grown-up puts out 5 spoons.
You take some away.
Your grown-up says how many are left.
Then switch jobs!
Draw 5 apples. Cross out 2 apples.
For a grown-up
This week your child learned take away.
They used fingers, counters and number lines.
Ask, "How many are left?" at snack time.
Keep numbers small, up to 5.
Mistakes are fine. Count again together.
