Friday: Freddy's expression game

Freddy the Frog hops onto a big lily pad covered in number cards.

"Ribbit! Welcome to the expression game," he says, tugging his bow tie.

"Some cards have parentheses. Some have words. Some ask you to compare without calculating."

Oliver adjusts his glasses. "Remember, work inside the groups first."

Bennie nods. "And the words tell us the order of the steps."

Freddy grins. "Then hop to it, friends!"

Game 5: True or false?

SentenceTrue or false?
(12 + 8) ÷ 4 = 5?
45 - 5 × 6 = 240?

8 × (2,316 + 47) is 8 times as large as 2,316 + 47.?
WHY THIS EXERCISE45 - 5 × 6 is 15, because we multiply 5 × 6 before we subtract.
Try it
Hop like Freddy 3 times, then 2 more times. Do that 4 times in all.
Write an expression for all your hops, like 4 × (3 + 2).
Count your hops to check the value.
