Friday: Freddy's factor game

Freddy the Frog has painted numbers from 1 to 50 on smooth river stones.

"Ribbit! Welcome to Factor Falls," he says with a bow.

"Hop to a stone and tell me about its number."

"Is it prime or composite? What are its factor pairs?"

Samantha bounces from stone to stone, ready to play.

Bennie settles on the bank with his basket of apples.

"Take your time," he says. "Check each pair by multiplying."

SentenceTrue or false?
6 × 8 is a factor pair of 48.?
39 is a multiple of 4.?
31 is a prime number.?
27 is a prime number.?
WHY THIS EXERCISE27 = 3 × 9, so 27 is composite. 39 ÷ 4 leaves a remainder of 3.
Try it
Hop like Freddy, counting by threes: 3, 6, 9.
Keep hopping until you reach 30.
Every number you said is a multiple of 3.
◇ FACTOR DETECTIVE
One of you thinks of a number from 2 to 50.
The other asks yes or no questions, like is 5 a factor?
Guess the number in as few questions as you can.
Then say whether it is prime or composite.

Ribbit! Great game. Tomorrow is a Number Hunt.
