Thursday: The thirsty bean rows

Chris the Coyote tips his feather hat and begins a story.

"One hot afternoon, the bean rows drooped," he says.

"Rosie filled a big jug with 9 liters of water."

"Then she poured in 6 liters more."

"She watered from 5:10 until 5:45, hopping from row to row."

"By sunset, every bean leaf stood up tall and green."

Learn it: liters

Liquid volume is how much liquid a container holds.

We measure liquid volume in liters. We write L.

A jug has marks like a number line.

A jug marked 0 to 10 liters, filled to 6 liters

The water reaches the 6 mark, so the jug holds 6 liters.

Story: Rosie waters the beans

9 + 6 = 15, so the jug held 15 liters.

She watered from 5:10 to 5:45. That is 35 minutes.
