At the second challenge stop, Bruce holds up three cards.
They say 6, 8 and 48.
"Make as many true facts as you can with these numbers," he says.
Bennie lines up the cards on a flat rock.
"Two times facts and two division facts," he says.
"The same three numbers make a family."
Bruce flicks his tufted ears. "Four facts! Can you find them all?"
This rectangle has 6 rows of 8 squares.
6 × 8 = 48 and 8 × 6 = 48.
48 ÷ 6 = 8 and 48 ÷ 8 = 6.
If you know one fact, you know all four.
Some facts are easier to remember.
8 × 7 is double 4 × 7. 4 × 7 = 28, and 28 + 28 = 56.
9 × 6 is 10 × 6 take away one 6. 60 - 6 = 54.
