Thursday: The kindness baskets

Chris the Coyote opens his satchel and pulls out a tiny basket.

"This is the story of Lucy's kindness baskets," he says.

"One spring, Lucy found 32 pears under the old tree."

"She wanted to make baskets for 4 neighbors who were feeling sad."

"Then she found 36 acorns, and she put 9 in each basket she made."

"Everyone smiled when the baskets arrived."

Story: Two kinds of baskets

Lucy shares 32 pears fairly with 4 neighbors.

32 ÷ 4 = 8, so each neighbor gets 8 pears.

Then Lucy puts 9 acorns in each basket.

36 ÷ 9 = 4, so she makes 4 acorn baskets.
