Wednesday: Add ones

Hazel has 42 crayons in a big jar.

She finds 5 more under her desk.

"Do the tens change?" asks Bennie.

Hazel thinks carefully.

Learn it: add the ones

42 is 4 tens and 2 ones.

Add 5 ones. 2 ones and 5 ones make 7 ones.

The tens stay the same.

So 42 plus 5 is 47.
