Saturday: Number Hunt

Hazel and Bennie go on a number walk.

"Let us find groups and add them," says Hazel.

"We can use tens and ones," says Bennie.

Hunt for things to add

Find two groups of things at home.

Count each group with tens and ones.

Add them together.

Try it: Number Hunt

◇ ADD WITH A GROWN-UP
Your grown-up says a number like 32.
You add 10 and say the answer.
Then you say a number for them.
They add 10 and you check.
Take turns five times.
Draw two groups you found. Write how many in all.
For a grown-up
This week your child added bigger numbers.
They added tens to tens and ones to ones.
They took away tens, like 70 take away 30.
Ask them to explain how they got each answer.
Blocks or piles of ten help a lot.

Great hunting! Next week Lizzy helps us measure and more.
