Chris the Coyote opens his storyteller's bag.
"I keep number stories in here," he says.
"Bennie, will you help me solve them?"
Chris tells a story.
"Bennie has 8 apples. Chris brings 5 more."
"How many apples now?"
More apples come, so we add.
Bennie writes 8 + 5 = ?.
He starts at 8 and counts on 5.
"9, 10, 11, 12, 13." There are 13 apples.
One full ten-frame and 3 more make 13.
Sometimes the story hides the middle number.
"Bennie has 9 acorns. He finds some more. Now he has 12."
Bennie writes 9 + ? = 12.
He counts on from 9, "10, 11, 12." That is 3.
| Story | Do we add? |

Here are new sight words.
