Thursday: A lantern story

Chris the Coyote sits on a log by the pond.

"Tonight I will tell a story with puzzles," he says.

"Listen for the missing numbers."

Story: The lanterns on the trail

Riley hung 10 lanterns along the trail.

A soft wind came by.

Some lanterns went dark. Only 6 still glowed.

Bennie and Riley walked the trail together.

They lit the dark lanterns again, one by one.

Then Riley found 2 more lanterns in his bag.

A ten-frame with six red counters and four gold counters

The red counters are lanterns that glowed. The gold ones went dark.
