Saturday: Number Hunt

Riley swings his lantern.

"Let us play a hiding game at home!" he says.

"Hide some things. Then find the missing number."

Hunt for hidden numbers

Pick a small group of things.

Count them all first.

Then hide some under a cup or a cloth.

Count what you can see.

Find how many are hiding.

◇ HIDE AND COUNT WITH A GROWN-UP
Your grown-up puts out up to 10 blocks.
Count them together.
Close your eyes while they hide some.
Count what is left. Say how many are hiding.
Lift the cup to check. Then trade jobs!
Draw a cup hiding some apples. Write the puzzle.
For a grown-up
This week your child found missing numbers.
For 8 - ? = 5, they think 5 + ? = 8.
Ask them to count on out loud.
Mistakes are fine. Count again together.

Great hunting! Next week Chris brings story problems.
