Donnie has 9 pinecones in a pile.

Some roll away. Now 4 are left.

"How many rolled away?" asks Bennie.

Learn it: think addition

Adding and subtracting are friends.

For 9 - 4, think: 4 + ? = 9.

4 and 5 make 9. So 9 - 4 = 5.
