Saturday: Number Hunt

Donnie walks softly through the yard.

"Let us hunt for take away," says Donnie.

"Find a group, then take some away!"

Hunt for take away

Find a group of things.

Count the group.

Take some away. Count what is left.

Try it: Number Hunt
Find 8 spoons. Take 2 away.
Find 10 socks. Take 5 away.
Find 6 toys. Take all 6 away.
Find 7 books. Take 0 away.
Tell a grown-up how many are left.

◇ TAKE AWAY WITH A GROWN-UP
Your grown-up puts out 10 spoons or fewer.
They hide some under a towel.
You count the spoons you can see.
Say how many are hiding. Then switch!
Draw a group. Cross some out to take away.
For a grown-up
This week your child subtracted within 10.
They counted back and used adding facts.
Ask, "What is 9 - 4? How do you know?"
Let them use fingers or objects.
