Lucy waves from her daisy.

"Let us hunt for groups to add!" she says.

"Look for two groups that go together."

Hunt for adding

Find two small groups of things.

Count the first group.

Then count on the second group.

Try it: Number Hunt
Find 3 forks and 2 spoons. Add them.
Find a pair of shoes. Say 1 + 1.
Find 4 books and 1 more book.
Find a double, like 2 socks and 2 socks.
Find a cup. Add 0 more cups.

◇ ADD WITH A GROWN-UP
Your grown-up makes two piles of spoons.
You count on to find how many.
Then you make two piles for them.
Take turns five times.
Draw two groups you added today.
For a grown-up
This week your child added within 10.
They counted on from the bigger number.
Ask, "What is 6 + 2? How do you know?"
Doubles like 4 + 4 are good to practice.
