It is Saturday at Beacon Station.

Rocket waves a checklist. "Find every volume button!"

Raven peeks at a radio. "What do you notice?"

Nova glows. "Hint: ask a grown-up first."

  1. The sun icon changes brightness.
  2. Volume buttons make sound louder or quieter.
  3. A speaker with a line means mute.
  4. A soft, dry cloth cleans a screen.
  5. Grown-ups handle plugs, headphones and wet cleaning.

Walk through your home with a grown-up.
Find one thing with a volume button.
Find one thing with a screen.
Find one sun icon or brightness button.
Point to each one. Say what it does.
Look for a mute button or icon.
Safety first
A grown-up goes with you.
Point. Do not press until a grown-up says yes.
Never touch plugs, cords or chargers.
For a grown-up
Let your child point and name each control.
Ask: what does this button do?
Show the mute icon on one device.
