Monday: Know your grown-up

Chris the Coyote here. Today Bruce needs a hand.

Bruce the Bobcat wants to be ready.

"What should every helper know?" he asks.

Ferris holds a grown up fox paw. Lucy points to a helper at a stand.

Two things to know by heart

Bruce the Bobcat is our host this week.

Being ready means knowing things before you need them.

Your grown-up has a real name. Not just Mom or Dad.

Your grown-up has a phone number too.

Learn both at home, out loud, with your grown-up.

Never type them into a screen. Just know them.

  • A real name has a first and last part.
  • A phone number is a row of numbers.
  • Say it like a song. Songs stick.
  • Tell it only to a helper when you need help.
For a grown-up
Teach your full name and one phone number offline.
Try a tune: sing the digits in groups.
Practice at breakfast for a week. Keep it light.
The lesson never asks the child to type them.
