Family Helper Day: Plant and pet check

Saturday in Fern Hollow. Lizzy taps on your window.

"Check your plants and pets today," she says.

Rosie the Rabbit cheers, "Gentle helpers, go!"

  1. A plant needs water and light.
  2. Poke a finger in the soil. Dry means water.
  3. Pour slow and low. Stop when damp.
  4. Pets: gentle hands, fresh water, grown-up there.
  5. Wash your hands after soil or pets.
◇ PLANT AND PET CHECK TOGETHER
Walk to each plant with your grown-up.
Poke a finger in the soil. Dry or damp?
Water the dry ones with a small cup.
Turn one pot toward the window.
If you have a pet, fill its water bowl.
No pet? Practice gentle hands on a toy.
Safety first
Ask before touching any plant or pet.
A grown-up is there the whole time.
Wash your hands when you finish.
For a grown-up
Choose plants that are safe to touch.
Hold the cup together if pouring is tricky.
Praise slow, careful hands.
