Family Helper Day: Set the table

Saturday in Fern Hollow. Lucy flies to your window.

"Your turn!" she says. "Set the table today."

Rosie the Rabbit waves her flag.

  1. Each person gets one place.
  2. Plate in the middle. Fork left. Spoon right.
  3. Count the people. Then count the plates.
  4. Clear your own plate with two hands.
  5. Please, thank you, excuse me, may I be excused.
◇ SET THE TABLE TOGETHER
Count the people eating with your grown-up.
Get that many plates. Count them.
Set each place: plate, fork, spoon, cup, napkin.
Walk around the table. Check each place.
At the meal, use three kind words.
After, clear your own plate.
Safety first
A grown-up carries glass and anything hot.
Carry one plate at a time with two hands.
Carry forks with the points down.
For a grown-up
Let your child count the people first.

Praise the trying, not just the finish.
